The Question here has been properly answered.... But i just wanted to add that since Pink Algae is a Bacteria, you are going to need to wash any bathing suits and all your pool equipment etc... You need to be dilligent in making sure you get all your pool equipment... Pole, Brush, nets, Vac, if you have an automatic pool cleaner like a Polaris or a Dolphin, or anything else like that, Make sure that those are in the water as well. Best thing i can tell you for bathing suits. Spend the extra money and purchase new ones, and throw the old suits away. Pink Algae is Nasty, and hard to get rid of, take special care to get in the crevices of your skimmer, and your tile. Also, if you have your Pool Return Eyeballs Remove these to make sure there isnt a Pink Algae bloom behind the cover...
Finally. Go to your pool store and get a product called Pink Treat. Its a chlorine salt that is designed to help treat this type of condition. Yellow treat could also be used, But just make sure that you follow the directions and make sure you are treating your pool properly. IF you have a 35000 gallon pool and are only treating it with chemicals for a 20000 gallon pool, you will just be wasting your time... Its almost like if you were the middle child and your younger brother punched you, you wouldnt feel a thing, But if your older brother punched you, you would feel it for days to come.. You want to make sure that you treat if for at least your minimum gallonage of your water. ITs always best to round up if you only have 25000 gallons, Treat it as if it was 30000 gallons.
Wishing you the best of luck... Ive worked on many pools with Pink Algae before, and its not a fun task.

It's the toughest of all. It's a bacteria, not an algae. You'll have to shock and then shock some more, clean filter and all tools, possibly even swimsuits.
I've had good luck using Coral Seas Yellow Out, which is a chlorine enhancer. First step is to use the Yellow Out as per package instructions. Brushing is not required. About 36 hours after Yellow Out treatment, clean the filter and shock the pool to 30ppm chlorine, brushing everywhere. Run filter continuously. After shock has cooled off clean the filter again. If the pink slime reappears you'll need to drain and chlorine scrub the whole thing.

Pink algae is not an algae at all, but a bacteria. Normal algaecides will not reliably work on them. To eliminate pink algae, you must superchlorinate your pool, turn off the filter, and clean it with a good filter cleaner. Let the filter soak overnight then backwash to waste. Let the chlorine level subside before using again. (Hint: a good rule of thumb is to toss into the pool the equipment that is normally used for pool maintenance, including hoses, brushes, etc. prior to superchlorinating. These need to be disinfected too). (1)
In a normal pool environment chlorine becomes bonded with other chemicals from people using the pool. When that happens, the chlorine will not work effectively. Regular shock treatments will help resolve the issue of the "pink algae". Remember to vacuum regularly with a brush type vacuum head to loosten anything stuck to the tile or liner wall, flush your filter to waste to remove contaminants, and maintain chlorine at the optimum level. Also do regular PH testing to make sure all is in good balance. Your local pool supply house, or hot tub dealer can sell you all the appropreate testing equipment (usually a few tubes and several bottles of reactive dyes and refrence charts).
Proper maintanance will be your key to keeping your pool healthy, and the people who swim in it.
