People often say the Reds, but that's wrong. They were the first professional team, but their NL entry actually disappeared before reentering the league.

There are two teams still in existence that began with the 1876 National League.

1) Atlanta Braves, who began as the Boston Red Caps
2) Chicago Cubs, who began as the Chicago White Stockings

To clarify my comment about the Reds, the current version of the team only began in the 1882 American Association. They are not an original NL team:

They started in 1876...Atlanta Braves (Boston Red Caps) and the Chicago Cubs (White Stockings).

The Cubs and the Braves both date back to 1876.

The Cubs finished 1st that year and the Braves finished 4th.
