I wanted to get some advice on what I should do. My husband and I put a large deposit down on a landscaper (1,500). He promised the work done in 2 weeks, and hasn't done anything so far. We tried calling him and for a while, he had his phone rejecting phone calls, then on saturday we could leave messages again, but with no luck, he hasn't returned our messages. We found an old business that has negative marks on BBB, but not this current business. We spoted him on the streets and followed him to his new house. We aren't sure what the next step should be... I want to send him a legal letter to say that he is in breach of contract and if he doesn't comply, then we will file a lawsuit. I am affraid of the cost of money this might cost. If anyone has any advice... I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I would call the Attorney General from my county. They may want to file criminal charges. You might get a cash offer as part of a plea agreement.
The most it would cost you would be a phone call and maybe a court appearance.
