I can tell you right now that you've received terrible advice from most of the above sources. Finding auditions depends mostly on where you live and what type of auditions are you looking for. You also need your parents full support of course.
There are auditions every day, every hour pretty much. Without an agent, try starting out seaching on backstage.com and actorsaccess.com. If you want more info, be more specific in your next question such as whether you're seeking principal work, if you have any experience, where you live, what training you have (because you absolutely need it), etc.

Professional productions do not have open calls for principles. You need to be submitted by a SAG franchised agent. You get signed by a SAG franchised agent by having had professional training and good amateur credits. If you want to audition for some amateur stuff there are sources. A paying film or TV job is out of the question.

I would get an agent if I were you. But if you've never done acting I would do community theatre

It really depends on where you live and if someone contacts you to meet them don't do it. Casting calls will be in a public place
