I am a white woman & am married to a black man. I was driving on the highway & had a minor fender-bender. My husband was riding with me in the passenger seat. As we were exchanging info with the other driver (a young white girl), a police officer came up. Neither of us called for the police, so we're not sure if he just happened upon us or if another motorist called 911. Anyway, after he got my info & the other drivers info, he came back & asked for my husband's ID. Why? He wasn't driving! He was only a passenger! There were no drugs, weapons, alcohol, etc in the car....not even cigarettes, but he ran my husband's ID to check him for warrants....and yes, he was an old white police officer.
I have a very close friend who is a black, female police officer in this city & she told me that he should have never even asked for my husband's ID. It wasn't necessary for any reason. He was just "profiling" him because he is a black man with a white woman.
Also, while I do believe this happens to blacks more often, it does happen to whites as well. My son has a nice car & was pulled over the other day and given a ticket for just not wearing a seal belt. Another night he got stopped because "a car like his was involved in a burglary" & they wanted to search his car.
I don't understand it either!

I am white and I drive a 2007 4Runner Limited and I get the same thing. They pulled me over once also and asked me if I had been taking drugs but I had just been up all night studying for test so I was very tired and my eyes were red. They didnt even give me a good reason why I was pulled over either. I think sometimes it is not only the color but age also and where you are driving at the time you are pulled. I live in Philadelphia and there are a mix of colors and culures. I used to live in Michigan and was pulled all the time for stupid things that didnt make sense. I am a normal looking guy to not just some roughed up bum.

honey this is what it is to be Black and specifically a Black male. The only thing I can tell you is to stay calm and put your hands out the window BEFORE they reach your door. If you try and do this while they are near you they are liable to shoot because you as a A Black man are automatically perceived as dangerous.
I understand, they pull you over cuz they don't think you should be driving a nice car and if you are driving this Nice car it MUST be becuase you sell drugs.
All I can say is remain calm and don't get upset. Make sure you have a hidden camera rollin somewhere too!
SPUNNKARMA: what about that loud crap: HEAVY METAL, that is NOT music, yelling and screaming?

Yeah, I know...I have a 2006 Lexus...I haven't been pulled over in it...but my boyfriend has...He's pissed with the police where we live because they know it's my car, it's totally legal with no tickets or anything like that. I think they just pull people over because of the car nowadays. He has a 2003 Acura and they pick with him when he drives that car. So maybe it's just him that they don't like?

Over 80% of the US prison population is black. I think profiling has an awful lot to do with that. How else could 14% of the US population account for such a large percentage of crime?

Um yeah... this is Black American i do no longer use the term African American because of the fact i think if an African come over and get citizenship they could be African American, until they address their united states's call (Somali American). we are to completely separate communities in usa.
