snakes will eat most living things small mice hampsters rabbits things like that. but when you go to the pet store to get the snake some if not most will feed them frozen mice. though they let them get to room temp before they do. so if that sounds better for you then call around and see if you can find a store that feeds them like that and go from there.
hope this helps

If it's just the fact that they are living animals that bothers you, what about prekilled or frozen mice?

It's better for the snake to eat pre killer also...I was not happy with the thought of getting a snake, but my boyfriend did anyways, we feed them frozen mice (thawed out of course) and it doesnt bother me...keeping in mind, I am a rat keeper and have been since I was very young.

You put the snake in a separate, dark bin, thaw the food, then drop it into the bin, you can watch them eat or just let them go untill they are done...many breeders and store feed frozen already so you wont have to go through the trouble of transitioing them, but if they are on live, it's not that hard to switch over. I've transitioned a few balls from live to frozen already with little to no problems...

Other than that, almost all snakes eat small animals, some will eat fish or small bugs while they are younger but they all need to eat something that atleast was living...

Other reptiles that don't eat live food...
Crested Geckos...can eat baby foods, fruits and veggies
Iguanas...can not have animal matter...only veggies
Uromastyx...should have some insects in their diet, but can live with out them...they are hard to keep and need an experienced herp though....

I hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!!!!

There are many types of snakes that can get used to feeding on pre-killed prey or frozen thawed out prey. I dont feed any of my snakes live prey because it teaches the snake to be aggressive towards something that moves and if a mouse or a rat is to bite a snake it can cause serious injury to the snake and sometimes even kill it. Many snakes over time can get used to being fed dead food and you can even order pre-killed mice/rats/chickens/and rabbits online like at micedirect.com, frozenrodent.com, rodentpro.com, or miceonice.com are some websites you can order frozen feeders, also some pet stores if you ask will give you dead rodents too. There are also some snakes like most water snakes that will eat fish too.

I do not think that this is a good idea. Snakes are not a pet for little children. And also Im afraid to tell you this but the ninety per cent of the snakes eat live animals.

Some very small snakes eat bugs. That's about the best you can do. Snakes are meat-eaters. Most pet snakes require live animals in order to be happy. If you are not willing to do that, then a snake is not the pet for you.

All snakes eat their food alive and kill them. I cannot think of one snake that eats it's food dead. Maybe you could talk your brother into getting some kind of lizard instead of a snake because they will eat insects and different sorts of vegetables.

Feed them back to Mother Nature and let them find their own food.
