I think the end of the world will occur in a few billion years from now on. The core of the earth is extremely hot and there is sufficient evidence to suggest that it is getting even hotter as years pass.
This is natural - any planet`s core gets hotter and hotter as time goes by due to the increasing pressure and heat produced over years. The heat is actually produced by most unexplained reactions on other planets.
It`s pretty obvious for the Earth. It`s a combination of factors, and soon, it will be so hot, that our planet will not be able to support itself. There will be a mighty big explosion, killing, and destroying everything we know of today.
That means that after that process of `disintegrating` in space, our present planet will be reduced to dust over an additional billion or more years from then on.
The bottom line is; It is the phenomenal extremely high temperature which will burst the earth`s core into pieces, before disintegrating into space for a further billion or so years!
Rest assured; Luckily, our species as I put it will already be wiped off by then. There will next be an even more superior species than us during that time, and they will suffer the consequences of that phenomena!

In about 4 Billion Years the Sun will start to turn into a Red Giant and expand consuming Mercurey, Venus, and Earth ... or at least be close enough to Earth that it fry's the atmospher away ... then outta no where the sun will shrink into an itsy-bitsy light.
Ah you said end of the world ... not end of civilization, society, or life (plans, bugs, animals, fish, birds, and humans)

According to the word of God, God himself will destroy the earth with fire. Read Peter's letter to the church (more specifically 2 Peter chapter 3 click on link below).
Who would know better than the one who created the earth?
Be sure to read the entire chapter and letter because it talks about how God is going to create a new earth.
