I love Elton John and I went to see him the other night. Tiny Dancer is one of my favourite songs but have no idea what it is about! Can anyone tell me?

The song was written about Maxine Feibelmann, a dancer on Elton John's tour who later married Taupin. (Later, the song from the Elton John album Blue Moves called "Between Seventeen and Twenty" referred to the divorce of Bernie and Maxine Taupin and the fact that so much had changed from when they first met when he was age twenty and she was age seventeen.)

I see a couple living in a blue collar neighborood struggling to get by. He plays piano in a fledgling band. She works as a seamstress in a store where members of the band go to have their clothes sewn. She pretends to be a ballerina for him, they stroll down a boulevard together, and she goes to see the band. They're very much in love even as they struggle together. While she sleeps peacefully, he whispers to her "hold me closer tiny dancer . . ."

The "Blue jean baby, LA Lady, seamstress for the band" is Maxine Feibelmann, Bernie Taupin's girlfriend. She traveled with the band on their early tours, often sewing together the costumes and fixing their clothes. She and Taupin married in 1971.
Bernie Taupin is the song writer. :)
