Some people can fix anything....I, on the hand, am impotent when it comes to being handy!
BUT, I want to learn....Any tips or do you have to be born with the handy gene?

Practice and library books. Just tinker on stuff until you get it. But, know when to stop before it gets too expensive and you have to call in the professionals. No sense in making it worse than it was.

Read up on subjects you want to work on. Join some DIY websites where you can ask for help if explanations are needed. Doing is the way to learn.

It depends on what you want to do. A monkey with a couple of tools could learn to fix most appliances with knowledge from http://appliancequickfix.com/
