Honestly, I hate being the center of attention. I'd much rather let other people take the spotlight. I don't feel the need to parade my achievements and continually compete with others. I know what I've accomplished in my life and that's enough.

I am very comfortable being the center of attention, IF I AM IN CONTROL OF THE SITUATION.

I have been a teacher-trainer for many years and totally enjoy being the "star" of the classroom.

I also have given hundreds of speeches in my life (outside of the classroom) and enjoy giving speeches. However, just before I go on stage, I always "wish" I were somewhere else and have been close to vomiting a few times. But once I start to speak, I'm back to my normal self.

I've heard that many famous entertainers react in a similar way.

By the way, I was a very shy child and continued to be shy through college. However, the first week of my Air Force career I was required to address an audience of 200+. I wasn't "asked" to do it, I was "ordered" to do it. And I got over my shyness rather quickly. Thank you, Air Force.

Like every other aspect in life, there needs to be a balance. A balance of good and evil, a balance of hot and cold, a balance of arid lands and lands of cultivation. There needs to be a balance with this too. You can't always be in the spotlight and you can't always be on the sidelines.
Everybody is good at something and not so good at other things.

Take two sisters. One is a great cook and the other is an opera singer. The opera singer can't cook but shines on stage with her singing. Whereas the cook dazzles friends and family with culinary delights from all around the world but cannot sing a note.

This, I know, is not really a common analogy but it gives you the gist of what I am trying to get across.

Most of the time, i like to stay in the shadows, and let other people take all the spotlight. That's just the srt of persn I am, I'm unselfish, and I'll always allow people to have their chance.

BUT...
If it's something I really care about, or something that I've really worked hard for, I will want to be in the spotlight. It's a whole part of wanting praise for doing something you love or that you worked hard on...

So yeah.

no. i avoid the center, basking in the flickering light away from the fire. i feel i'm much more effective playing devil's advocate, pushing and pulling, finding my way through the periphery than in having the stage to myself. others can do well with the pressure and the attention: i am content and successful watching, learning, and taking notes. maybe someday, the spotlight won't be the best or safest place to be.

I like being the center of attention most of the time. However, sometimes, that brings about stress and responsibility that tires me out. I take a step back for a while and then jump back in there re energized.

"How dreary to be somebody
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the live long day
To an admiring bog."
--- Emily Dickinson

I've never been comfortable being the center of attention because it makes me feel too vulnerable. A little recognition is enough for me.

I'm more comfortable in the shadows. Afraid of making a fool out of myself, I guess. But generally, I just do what I do, and go where it takes me. If it's in the spotlight, so be it.

I am a wallflower to the core! I think that I would like to be the center of attention but I'm insecure. So I stick to the wall and watch everyone else.
