I have been having knee pain. Went to the doctors and had x-rays and an MRI. Was told I have a torn meniscus. It appears to not be a complete tear. I am going for phisical therapy and it does feel better, at least the pain is not as severe.

Has anyone had this problem and if so what did you have to do? Surgery/no surgery.

I am almost done with 4 weeks of PT, just completed 7 sessions. Have like 9 more sessions sceduled so far. Going to the Orthopedic Dr tomorrow, to see what he has to say.
Dennis lets just say I am not in my 20's. I am not into sports at this point in my life, but enjoy going for walks with my Dog and Hubby. I also enjoy playing with my 2 Grandchildren.

The decision to have surgery or not depends on several factors. The first is how much pain you are in...if after PT you end up still having pain that limits you from doing things you like to do then go with the surgery. How old are you...if you are middle aged or older then maybe surgery is not the best option. Finally, how active are you...if you participate in lots of sporting activities then consider surgery. What it amounts to is if you are middle-aged or older, and can live with the pain level and it doesn't interfere with activities you like to do I would shy away from surgery. If on the other hand you are younger and more active and/or have a lot of pain then go with the surgery. You should give the PT 6 wks to see where you are at before any decision. Hope that helps.

My father had this, I would go through with the Surgery!! Especially if the Dr recommends it... The healing process does take a while, but I think that if it were me I would go through with the Surgery.. Good luck to you!
