You would not be on the Internet today if it hadn't been for the work of James C. Maxwell. He figured out that electricity and magnetism were the same force, and that lead to the discovery of the EM Spectrum. The work of Einstein (which might have been his wife's theory) has yet to be put into use. Galileo probably would have invented Calculus if he wasn't saddled with the Roman Numeral System. This question is more qualitative than quantitative.

Hard to say...Albert Einstein was a very great scientist, but there are people such as Aristotle, Galileo and Isaac Newton who rank pretty high up on the list too. On the other hand, perhaps in the future the person we will remember best might ultimately be Stephen Wolfram, Kurt Godel or Alan Turing. We'll have to wait and see.

Take your pick amongst Darwin, Newton or Einstein. I can't pick a greatest from these three, they all tie for me.

I'll throw Alan Turing up there too, but I doubt anyone who knows who he is (computer science pioneer, inventor of the Turing Machine, which can be used to express all limitations in computers. He invented this in the 1940's and his rules still hold today, despite increases in computing power. He was also one of the people that deciphered the Germans encoded messages in WW2).

isaac newton

no one could have done anything without him
in fact, to quote Dr. Subrahamanyan Chandrasekhal of the university of Chicago, "it is fashionable today to think of Einstein as the epitome of scientific genius, and compared with us ordinary mortals, Einstein was indeed a giant. but compared with newton, Einstein runs a very distant second

Einstein himself once said "If i have accomplished anything in this world, it has been by standing on the shoulders of giants." h also said that his work would have been impossible without the discorveries of Newton.

indeed, Newton is considered by most scientists as the greatest scientist of all time

The greatest scientist of all time is Ibn al-Haytham, the eleventh century Muslim scholar who developed the scientific method. He was the first person to apply algebra to geometry, creating the branch of mathematics known as analytic geometry. He solved the mystery of vision, disproving Greek notions that they eyes sent out rays that sensed objects. He showed that sight occurs when light stimulates the optic nerve. He was the first person to describe the propagation of light accurately. To test his hypotheses about light, he constructed many experiments, including the world's first camera obscura.

His use of experimentation was an outgrowth of his skeptical nature and his Muslim faith. He believed that human beings are flawed and only God is perfect. To discover the truth about nature, he reasoned, one had to allow the universe to speak for itself. By insisting on the use of experimentation to establish truth, Ibn al-Haytham earned himself a place in history as the first scientist.

His discoveries about light, reflection, and refraction remain true today--unlike the theories of many other scientists, which have been revised or proven incorrect. Most importantly, all other scientists have followed the system of inquiry--the scientific method--that he developed. They all stand on his shoulders. This makes Ibn al-Haytham the greatest scientist of all time. You can read more about him at http://www.ibnalhaytham.net/

For this decade I can prove that I should be honored for the inventions I made from the year 2001. So far I have designed about 40 types of life saving equipments use full to alert the people at the beginning of earthquakes ,before starting of Tsunami. warning at unmanned level crossings and many more.I have issued the alert message to our local T.V.stations 2 hours before Tsunami struck our Indian coast. Several scientist appreciated my inventions.Nobody came forward to use the benefit of my inventions . My quake alarm that can be manufactured just for U.S. $ 25 should have reduced the death and accident rate from yesterdays earthquake that affected many people in Japan. My quake alarm has proved its capability on 5 different occasions. Out of inferiority complex higher officials are hiding the facts.
