I watched it for the first time today... and boy was it painfully unfunny and stupid!!!

Most of the tv shows made years ago look stupid when you see them again. Only a handful are timeless. Welcome Back Kotter was never a great show, just amusing at times. Obviously, it is historically significant because it introduced John Travolta.

Like many things, you're seeing it out of context about thirty years too late. Probably the same reason I find current shows about teens or twenty-somethings completely retarded (from my perspective). I teach college students who are twenty years younger than me and many of their ideas, reactions, and interpretations would have been considered very odd to my generation. Try to be open to that and you will understand much of the world in a better way.

I think it's hilarious. However, I also watched it while it was on. It's hard to watch a show 25 years later and take it seriously.
