because teenagers are less experienced in driving, parking, and responsibilities when it comes to a car. They are usually more reckless and speed more often than adults. ( I know I did). It's not necessarily "bad" to get a new driver a new car, however it seems more of a potential waste of money as well as bumping your insurance premiums higher. I personally think that a safe older car, about 3 years old, as a first car is the best choice. Then if they prove themselves to be responsible, you can reward them in 2-4 years with a newer car.

There is a good probability you will have an accident of some sort within the first year of driving. It might only be a fender bender. However, it is a lot cheaper to fix an older car than it is to fix a newer one. It ist also be nice to see if the type of car is what you want. If you purchase a new car you may be stuck with a payment for the next few years.

Because a new driver is also an inexperienced driver and it's only a matter of time before the new car becomes a dented car.
That, and the fact that insurance is so darn expensive. Insurance is cheaper on an old beater.

Lack of experience. You're more subject to accidents (either by yourself or involving other people). You need more experience on how to be a defensive driver, and occasionally an aggressive one. Get a beater car so WHEN it does get dented or scratched, you won't feel as bad as if it were a Lambo or something.

aside from the higher chance of ruining it anyway.....they have to prove they're even responsible enough to keep it clean and such. Also, it prevents them from looking like a spoiled brat if they're a teenage driver.

Because they almost always have an accident with it, and even a small accident can make insurance rates jump up.

They don't have a lot of experience driving yet, so they have a higher chance of getting into a collision...
