You can put it in lemon juice or tomato juice (cheap way), then, after a day, rub it with a cloth. Or you can buy some coin cleaner, but the cheap way works well.

You should never clean coins for they will lose value. As everyone knows there are exceptions to all rules. If it is grease and grime with a little dirt thrown in and has not eaten into the coin itself you can put it in acetone, that will dissolve the grease and grime. For the dirt a very soft tooth brush and be very gentle and to the dirt only brush it. Put coin in distilled water and then air dry. This is okay if not a real valuable coin. Rare coins you leave alone and let the pros do it. They know what they can get away with and when not to even try.

You should not ever clean coins. The only time a coin should be cleaned is if it is a truly valuable coin and then only by a professional. If it is only surface dirt run some water over it and then gently pat it dry, do not rub the coin. Anything more than this and you are likely to reduce the collector value of the coin.
