McCain keeps having staff quit. He's out of money. He angered the GOP base with his stance on pro-amnesty. Why doesn't he just "throw in the towel?"

He will eventually. I hope this will send a message to the others, if you support amnesty you will lose!

He's old and his brain has slowed down enough that it's taking him a really, really long time to come to grips with REALITY.

He thinks of himself as a young, maveric, "straight-talking" reformer. But in fact, he's an old, slow, washed-up, Washington insider who barely stands for anything anymore except warmongering.

He took it up the tailpipe from W 8 years ago and has been bending over for him every since. He caved on anti-torture. He went to Iraq and lied to our faces about the security situation. His campaign has crumbled under his feet, he has little money left and poor prospects for raising any more, his longtime staffers and supporters are fleeing like rats from a sinking ship, and he thinks things are "just fine".

McCain has long believed that he "deserves" to be President and that America somehow owes it to him because of his years of service (Bob Dole syndrome), and so he just can't let go of the dream. And so he will dodder around like a fool, embarassing himself until the crushing weight of reality cracks his skull, at which point he will bitterly concede defeat but vow to run again "next time" when he is 103 years old.

And then, until (and probably after) he is voted out of office he will yammer on relentlessly about how we need to pour more money and lives into Iraq so that we can "win", unaware that no one is even listening anymore.

Because he's delusional.

Over his career, he's cast vote after vote after vote that went directly against the constituants that he's supposed to serve, and he arrogantly said (essentially), "Too bad, this is what I think is the right thing to do and you'll just need to live with it!"

He's more a friend to Democrats than to his constituency. (That's why the media goes ga-ga over him, and crowned him the "front-runner" early on, in their own fantasy world.)

But now his history has come home to roost. And he's can't imagine that people would remember how he stabbed them in the backs time and time and time again.

He's in the same fantasy land that the media is.

And the "I was a POW in Viet Nam" thing is getting old. You can't keep falling back on that while continually betraying the people you're supposed to be fighting for. After a while, people actually begin to resent it when you bring it up.
