Of course, there is no religious test to qualify for President of the United States. Will one ever be elected in this country so obsessed with religion? No, never happening.

I'm sure more than one atheist has already served as president but they just didn't openly admit it.
Unfortunately professing to believe in widely held myths is currently required in order to get the necesssary votes to hold that office.

Yes. Most politicians claim a belief in a god to give the impression of having moral values that many think are an important quality to have. Many atheists are moral people and could lead a country as well as one of faith.

"Be allowed?" Who would prevent it? There are no laws restricting who can be president based on religion.
And anyone who uses religion as a litmus test of qualification has their priorities mixed up in my personal opinion.

Legally, yes. But I can just hear the opposing candidate now...b1tching about his 'godless' opponent.
I think it'd be great. Imagine a president who didn't inject his/her religion into their political agenda! Isn't that what this country's supposed to be all about?

I would rather have an atheist as a president as oppossed to one that pretends religon to appease a voting base, at least you would know where he/she stood.
