I have had some problems with my computer and conflicting drivers so I have started from scratch and reinstalled windows etc.... However when I try to scroll up/down a page my picture flickers, why is this and how do I solve it?

So far I have came across this problem whilst using word, excel and the internet.
It is like a wave going up or down the screen, but it only effects the page area not the entire screen.

this is a common problem andy, your video drivers need installing, and also the refresh rate needs to be set as high as possible(once you have installed the video drivers)
if you have a nvidia card go to http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp,and if its A.T.I then go to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
download the appropriate drivers and then install the downloaded file(the ati driver requires the installtion of the .net framework),get this from http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/netframework/default.aspx
once you have installed the drivers go to display properties(right click desktop>properties) and then the settings tab,and then change the resolution(1024x768 for a 17" monitor,1280x1024 for a 19"),then click the advanced button>them monitor tab and change the refresh rate(75hz is th standard setting for most monitors)
other settings can be done in the nvidia/ati control centers(right click desktop>click appropriate link)
any more problems let me know
good luck andy!

I think your problem has to do with RAM. Check your system properties to make sure it is recording the 1gig of RAM. Then I would try to find updated drivers for them. Try switching out the RAM with some from your old computer...or a computer that you know works. If it still does it I'd say there's some system conflict with your network card. Try updating the drivers for that. If it still doesn't work try reformatting your computer and start with the bare basics to see if it's some conflict with some software. Also, try doing a virus scan...if you got online without virus software it could be a virus. Hope all goes ok.

You need to give more info for a better answer to this. you say 'ie on the internet' does this mean it happens in apps also, or does it only happen when browsing. You should specify processor speed, memory installed and graphics card, this will help work out if its software or hardware

Did you reinstall the video drivers?

You may be missing the hardware acceleration and/or optimised drivers that is causing Windows to not scroll as smoothly.

It's your monitor. my mom's did that and she had to get a new monitor, some video component went bad, the longer you 'just deal with it' the worse it'll get until you can't see anything.
