I'm not sure which category to place this in, but here goes:

Why is CGI more expensive than doing stunts? For example, why was Transformers more expensive to make than Live Free or Die Hard?

Every little detail and movement of a CGI character has to be planned, designed, and programmed into a computer. This takes a large crew of artists and animators. Watch the credits and see how many people are listed under design, effects, animation, etc and consider what it costs to employ them for a year or two. There's also a warehouse full of high-powered computers running expensive software to render it all.

And they still have all the expense of filming live actors and real stunts, props, sets, and effects.

Because more people have to be hired for it and it takes a relatively longer time.

There's alot of work into it, like modeling the robots, combining scenes, adding sound effects, which probably takes 1 to 2 years to produce.

Because the special computer effects require experts and specialist software, both of which are very expensive.

In the 'Buffy' tv series, every time they wanted to 'dust' {vaporise} a vampire, it cost them nearly $10,000.
