I deposited a payroll check into my account via a drive up teller on 7/6 and they put the funds on hold for 7days!!! I have had this account for almost a year and they have NEVER put my funds on hold, they have always been available the next day. I talked to customer service and the guy was a jerk telling me that "Your lucky because checks ALWAYS get put on hold anywhere from 3-10days" and then he said I should ask everytime I deposit a check about it being on hold... well who the f is gonna ask when it has NEVER happened in the past??? I understand if it was a personal check I deposited, but payroll??? so, how long does anyone else's money get put on hold?? (I'm setting up direct deposit damn-it!!!) BTW this was Bank of America

This is an international company, therefore i'm sure there is no reputation of them bouncing payroll checks.

i have bank of america too. i get a hold for one day, my checks are bank of america checks from my job. but typically they do do that. i would suggest depositing it but taking some out at the same time. or cash it at the bank and deposit the cash in the atm- it will be available the next day.

All you need to do is cash the check where it was made and then go to your bank where you have the negative balance and give them the cash. So for example, your payroll check is made by Wells Fargo, go to that bank, they'll cash it right away, all you need is 2 forms of ID, this works at mostly all banks. Then go back to your own bank, where it's negative and give them cash directly. Banks can only put holds on checks, but not cash. This happen to me several times, cuz' my bank account was overdrawn a lot, then afterwards the banks wouldn't trust me. It takes a while, maybe 6-months or more before they stop putting holds, but your accounts need to be in good standing or somethin'. If you just go to a teller and give them a check with a bad overdrawn history, they may put a hold on it for like 10 days. You can also talk to the branch manager, tell the person that you've been depositing the same checks all the time, check the transaction history. The branch manager has the discretion to let it go.

Many times i you deposit on a Friday after 2 pm the funds are not available until the bank opens on Monday. Go with the direct deposit have used it for years it is great, If you are paid on a Friday, when the bank opens on Friday you can access your funds, no waiting in line, set it up so you can check your account and transfer etc online saves you even more time

Never had a hold on any check I deposited. Either a paper check or a direct deposit. Even the 80K check I cashed when I sold my house.

I'd talk to the supervisor at the bank.

Maybe you should have talked to a supervisor. Maybe the teller made an error in judgement. Maybe that employer has a history of bouncing checks.
