I want to buy a new electro acoustic guitar but am unsure which is a good one and where to buy one from? I have currently been playing for around a month / 2 on my dad's old guitar but i think its had its day and i could do with a new one. I want to spend up to £200 on a new one but don't know what is the best make/model to go for?

If possible..go to your nearest guitar shop and try some before you buy. Each make/model has a distinct feel and playability..you can always write the make a model and price check on the web. The customer service however is usually better, you can take the guitar back and get the action altered/neck /set-up etc. Avoid cheap copies/ shop own brand and budget models that assistants may sell you by chucking in guitar tuners/bags/strings for free..you want to get the best for your money. Here are a few possibilities around your price range

Takamine EC 260C Range. Top producer of electros Washburn EA 18. Always look/sound good
Yamaha APX3 CS. Won't find a better build/value
Ibanez AW 40 ECE-NT. People are loyal to this make
Also try some Fenders and Eppiphone (Gibson's) too as they are renowned makes.

Tanglewood and Takamine are good brands. The best is Ovation. They have started making a level entry model www.ovationguitars.com/ for around £200. They have a gorgeous tonal quality.

I play a Yamaha FX-315. It cost me around USD250, but there are similar models even cheaper. I have played it for many years now, and I have found nothing in its price range to compare.

For a little more money, the Martin DX-1E is fantastic sounding. If I had to do it over, I would save my money for one of those.

A Washburn D-8, pretty damn good sounding guitars for a cheap price, 200 USD or less

I would go with the electric guitar, it's easier for beginners and it's a lot more fun to play with. Acoustic is a bit harder b/c of several reasons but one of them is the strings have a bigger gap to the frets than the electric meaning you will have to push down harder. With electric you can play more as well.
