44 credit hours under my belt. Was going to major in history until I was convicted of unlawful use of a weapon.
It was for trying to keep my female neighbor from being beaten. I threatened her bf with a knife. I knew neither of them, but he beat her in their yard two times in one week.

Yes. Click on the link below to see an example of an application for licensure to be a psychologist. As with any health care professional license application, there is a question that specifically asks if you have ever been convicted of a felony. If you answer yes, you are then to explain. Each applicant's criminal history is examined on an individual basis. Be prepared for that process someday. Obtain a copy now of your felony case and keep it on file in the event the licensing board requests more information. Best of luck to you.

yes, as long as you follow the proper guidelines and do everything you are supposed to do, however you will have to clean up your record. The state you caught your charge in should be where you should go to school and start practicing. People will help those who want help and if you use the state law to your advantage such as get letters of recommendation from public officials, and from the court you were convicted in. Show yourself as a rehabilitated person and people including the state will help you..It can be done but you must and I mean must change and make it show. Make very good grades and make friends in the field of psychology and make friends with all public service representatives, stay out of trouble become a helper not a hurter, and do your homework, go to the court you were convicted at and start the expungement process even if it starts with a meeting with the judge, tell them your plan and show them the change in you and move forward. A person who wants a degree in psychology must be a dedicated individual, it takes about 7 years at the least to become a psychologist and a person who goes through the whole process of learning and holds a high GPA shows change in itself. So the answer is yes. Good luck!!

If you cannot be hired by a real clinic, think of ways around that. Try opening your own clinic or get a contract with the prison system as a doctor to help treat patients serving time in prison.

He might, if the school admits him. He might have a problem getting a license to practice, especially if the crime was something like child or sexual abuse, or something where he abused a position of trust. And then he might have a problem getting a job or patients, if they knew about his history.

Certainly, as long as he completes the educational requirements. Depending on the crime, it may be difficult to find work in that field, though. It may also prove detrimental to obtaining a license to practice psychiatry if he were to follow through with a doctorate program.

I'm sure that they could become one. You know who Dog the bounty Hunter is right? He was a convicted murderer and he is out trying to catch the bad guys now, so anything is possible!

I believe a felony conviction will preclude you from holding a license as a psychologist in most, if not all, states.

I don't know. But a convicted felon would understand the mind of a criminal better.
