I've been with my boyfriend now 2 years, we have been talking about having kids, now I am still young and I know I have to still do a lot before I am ready to have kids but I still want to know if I'm able to. I just don't want to go to the doctor just yet. I'm not 100% sure I ovulate, and i'm not sure my period is regular. It comes between 27-29 days every month. It's never usually really heavy. My boyfriend and I,we have been having sex for about a year and a half, I am not on birth control and we don't always use a condom, and nothing has happened yet. What do you think?

Becoming pregnant is all about the timing. You are probably having sex before you ovulate or too far after in order for you to conceive.

If you have your period every time, then you should be ovulating. If your period runs every 27-29 days regularly, then this is normal for you. As long as you haven't contracted any STDs, have endometriosis, or have had pelvic inflammatory disease, then your chances of getting pregnant each cycle is about 20-25%.

It would be a good idea to keep track of when your period start now, and the PMS and menstrual symptoms you have at the time. Then when you are trying to conceive, you may be able to tell the difference in your body and symptoms, but only a pregnancy test can tell you the truth (and even those buggers lie sometimes).

Just relax for now. You really don't have to worry about your fertility until you are ready to conceive or after you are 30 years old.

You should also understand that it is a two person process and your boyfriend may have semen abnormalities or a low sperm count. When you are ready to try, if you haven't conceive in 6 mos, talk to your doctor about getting basic fertility tests run.

There's really no way to tell without having some tests done. It can be as simple as a blood test or charting basal body temperatures to see if you're ovulating or more complicated tests to make sure you have good eggs. Your boyfriend may also have a low sperm count.

Just because you haven't gotten pregnant doesn't mean you can't. Even fertile couples take an average of 5 months to get pregnant.

If you aren't ovulating, that's a big reason for concern if you want to have a baby. You can still get your period if you haven't ovulated (it's called an anovulatory cycle) but your cycles wouldn't be as regular as 27-29 days. They would vary widely in length (maybe 25 days one month, 35 the next, maybe 60 the next). But unless you're being tested, you really don't have any way to know if you're ovulating or not.

You should probably talk to your dr at your next visit about checking these things out so you can get your cycles regulated for when you do try to get pregnant. Definitely think about getting married too before you try to have a baby. Children are a huge commitment and you want to be sure you have that from your boyfriend and not just the promise.

I think that you need to start using one! Because if you were not ovulating, then you would not be having any periods.. at all! So unless you are ready for those babies in the near future, then you need to get on the pill or wrap it up!

Well, that doesn't mean you can't have kids. Sometimes it takes longer than that. If you really want kids, keep trying, but I am old fashioned and I would suggest you get married first!!!

Get married first. Then plan on kids. You want a man to father your kids that loves you enough to marry you.

sounds like everything is fine to me. find out when you ovulate by taking your temps...maybe you just haven't had sex during your fertile time.

Maybe it's him and not you. The only way to find out if you can or not is the doctor.

I think you should be worrying more about not getting pregnant than getting pregnant.
