I got my period January 4, 2007. I'm 11 years old and I'm going to camp now. On tuesdays we have pool day but when i have mine my mother won't let me wear a tampon so i end up dangling my feet in the pool! It's so unfair. Any reasons that you guys can think of to convince my mommy?

The moment you start menstruating.

Since it will be your first time, get the slenderest plastic applicator tampons and try it out.

RELAX when you do this, and it will take you some time to get it right.

I struggled my first time. After that it was a piece of cake and now I love using tampons.

Just make sure you read the instruction paper that comes in the box.

I started wearing them not long after I started at age 11.

What is her reasoning for not allowing you to wear them?

Sorry sweetie, you're just going to have to deal with your feet being in on pool day. It's not really someone else's decision. If your mom thinks it's best for you not to use tampons, she's probably right. Your body is still pretty little, so you can have problems trying to put tampons in, no matter what size. And if you do end up getting one in, and for some reason it doesn't want to come out, it can end in an embarassing trip to the hospital [No joke, it happened to my friend when we were little]. It's better to miss out one day of swimming a month than have to go to the hosptial, isn't it?

Btw, I know how it is, I started my pd when I was 11 and wasn't allowed to wear tampons either. It sucks, but there isn't much you can do.

You should always mind your mother, but If it were my daughter in your situation, I would look at if this way...If she's old enough to have a period, she's old enough to decide if she is comfortable using a tampon. I would want to be involved in her decision to guide her and discuss the proper usage, but it is a personal decision, especially since you're not being bad, you just want to participate in swimming with your friends.

Well, does she have to know you're using one? I'm sure there's a way you can get around it. Good luck.
