How would you explain an object to disappear just a fraction of a second before a lightning bolt strikes?

How would you explain something like that?
A question for trekkies or real scientists?

It's an illusion. The object is vaporized by the lightning strike, and its plasma as well as the plasma generated in the air is what you see as the lightning strike. The light emitted lags the actual event.
