I'm upset about two things. First, that it happened, and, second, that the church hierarchy covered it up. I'd like to see a few cardinals and bishops end up behind bars if they knowingly protected sexual predators. Things must have been pretty bad, because the diocese finally paid a ton of dough to get it resolved.

Some house cleaning is overdue. The bishops have let too much go on under their watches. I am not saying they intentionally did wrong, but more accountability is needed. The incidents in Chicago bothered me greatly. By law, school administrators are required to report suspected child predators. It is not optional. I somewhat understand their desire to rehabilitate the guilty or show Christian kindness to them, but outlaw behavior is not acceptable.

It is a shame and a scandal which will colour the way people perceive the church for many years to come.
However, now the diocese has settled maybe it is time to move on and make sure it never happens again.
