Perhaps the the type of retardation would be relevent. A person with fetal alcohol symdrome would have wide set eyes as a downs syndrome child would have a different appearance. This question requires a professional answer. Good question.

Always wanting praise or to please
Limited mobility
Lack of understanding basic concepts-unless repeated
Inability to self direct... needs to be told what/how to do things
Lack of understanding basic needs grooming, hygene.etc..
These are just a few, and each and every case is specific to the induvidual being treated...
