I have a friend that REFUSES to read the books or see the movies with me because he's convinced Harry Potter is connected with the Illuminati. I don't know if this is true and I don't really care, it won't stop me from reading the books or watching the movies, however, I would like to know where this assumption might come from. Is there something to do with magic or wizarding that would make one assume an Illuminati connection? I don't understand, someone PLEASE explain!
BTW... If you don't know what Illuminati are, please don't answer the question. I need an informed answer. Thanks!

While I appreciate everyone reminding me that Harry Potter is a fictional character in an imaginary world... I'm aware of this and so is my friend. Maybe I can explain better.. he seems to think the STORY is some kind of vehicle designed by the Illuminati to pull more people into their secret order. Kind of a .. recruitment, if you will. I know Harry Potter is not a real person.. and so does he, I'm simply sondering where he might pull this Illuminati connection from.
Thank you for all of the responses (great and not so great) so far!

Harry Potter has NOTHING AT ALL to do with the Illuminati.
The Illuminati is the name used for several groups, real and fictitious. Most commonly it refers specifically to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment secret society founded in the late eighteenth century. However, in modern times it refers to a purported shadowy conspiratorial organization which is reputed to secretly control world affairs, usually a modern incarnation or continuation of the Bavarian Illuminati. In this context, Illuminati is often used in reference to a New World Order (NWO). Many Conspiracy theorists believe the Illuminati (The People of The Light), or illuminated ones, are the masterminds behind events that will lead to a New World Order.
Harry Potter is a fiction character in a series of children’s books written by a very wealthy woman who had an idea about a boy who battles evil and a secret world that exists along with our own in which witches and wizards are real.
There are conspiracy nuts out there who could tie any pop-culture phenomenon into the Illuminati, since anything that appeals to or affects huge masses of people would be an excellent vehicle for a group who wish to take over the world.

This is hardly surprising. Many people think that Harry Potter has to do with Satan (because of the witchcraft) and refuse to read it on those grounds. A connection with the illuminati is the next step, and before long I'm sure someone will have 'figured out' that Rowling is actually an alien from Mars trying to take over the world and that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be marketed with a virus inside each copy that will brainwash children and turn them into zombies that obey the freemasons' every command in order to form the New World Order. Oh, and I'm sure there are some lines in one of the books that 'prove' that the Moon landings didn't happen and that the Tungusaka meteor was actually an alien spaceship, too. The plain fact is, people are very good at thinking up ridiculous conspiracy theories and they're not about to stop anytime soon.

I know a lot about them and Harry Potter is not in one of the 13 bloodlines or even a real person(to my knowledge); however there could be subliminal messages in the books like in the bible or other religious books.
I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books (uninteresting subject) so I don't know about it.
Becka Gal is right some people do try and fit conspiracy theories into everything. I even believe it's a little crazy in a Harry Potter book, but like they say stranger things have happened.

I am not sure how this connection can be made.
Harry Potter is a fictional character created by a single woman trying to raise kids. She sat down, wrote a simple story, and became a millionaire. It can happen with out the help of secret organizations.
Unless the organization wrote the books and she is just reaping in the profits.
Now you have me confused.
Was Harry Potter truly written by Rowlings? I think YES. The reason being that she is a woman.
You and I both may have to do research on Rowlings to find out the answer to your question. and mine
Off to buy the latest book.

The "all-seeing eye" that is supposedly a symbol of the Illuminati is admittedly similar to the symbol of the Deathly Hallows, but they are not the same. The former is a detailed eye in a pyramid, the latter a circle bisected by a line and circumscribed by a triangle.

Has anyone noticed that the Deathly Hallows symbol looks a lot like the Illuminati sign?

The Illuminati was eliminated as a force in the 1700's. Those few remaining souls joined other branches such as the free masons. Harry could not be an active part of a non-existent organization.
