Call the lawyer's office for an update on what is being done or what he needs to do next. Sometimes lawyers get busy and tend to 'forget' some cases. I would advise calling once a month if you hear nothing from them to keep the process moving.

Many states have a 6-month waiting period for divorces. So don't expect any news quickly. If they agree on everything, then it will be over in less than a year.
If there is a house and kids involved, then the case could take longer. If his wife knows he wants it over fast, then she could drag her feet just to be a pain.
Don't wait by the phone or mail box. It will get over eventually.

Yes, it will take some time, but make sure that he calls his lawyer to find out what is going on with the paperwork, if you don't have one call the clerk of courts, that is where the papers are filed before court.

you kinda have to be the squeeky wheel if you want anything done....granted my fiance had a lawyer, but we ended up taking all the final paperwork down to the court house, and filing it ourselves, and i served his ex wife that same day ( so the divorce would be final 6 months from that day)...so just keep calling...make sure all his stuff is ready to go, so that way when they need it, he has it all ready and won't take more time trying to get it all together....good luck!

call the lawyer or the clerks office, but generally it takes almost a year to finalize a divorce even if it is uncontested. mine was uncontested and it took 11 months 2 finalize it.
