I don't think it is, because no matter what their situation is, they are criminals.

Also I read somewhere that other houses of worship, like synagogues are doing the same.

Your thoughts.

Sure. I think sanctuary is sanctuary and if a church wants to offer it fine...BUT once there are 20 million illegals squatting in those churches, being supported financially by the members, those church members may have a different view of their position on sanctuary. The question will be, how many illegals will they pack in there before they realize that it's just impractical to offer open sanctuary.

An illegal can only hide so long before they are going to stick their heads out and then they should be deported.

If they're in imminent (mortal) danger, yes--they should be offered sanctuary. However, if that 'imminent danger' is the possibility/probability of being deported........ no! The clergy should not be a shield for law breakers. The role of the Church here should be to unify the family so they can all be deported together. And sandwiches. They should send them with sandwiches for their journey. And finally--make sure the door doesn't hit them in the @$$ on their way out....that would be the Christian thing to do. ;-)

As Christians, we are taught to render unto Caesar (i.e. the state) the things it is due, and respect for law is one of those things. The churches should be about helping the illegals get back home safely and in a humane way.

Hell NO!!!!!

The Church clergy and members are breaking the law.
It is different if running from military or political strife which will lead to wrongful death but to run to a church because they don't want to go back to that smelly hellhole, BeanerVille called Mexico, all the while, dissing the USA, the same country whom is paying for their lazy asses, is TOTALLY WRONG AND UNLAWFUL AND ALL SHOULD BE DEPORTED! If they love Stink-land Mexico so damn much, GO BACK!!!! If not, I say we take care of biz in Mexico! With bombs and guns and Old glory flying high atop the Mexican capital again!

God create church, man created religious dogma which is our rules of what church is.

If I were president, the borders would be closed, the illegals deported, the Federal Reserve's monetary power shut down!
Bush Cheney and all their cronies would be imprisoned for treason and the troops would finish their job the right way and be home by now, manning our borders!

(Ohh by the way, I am Hispanic and nope this is not a race thing, it's a LEGAL THING!)

That is a third world activity and it should not be tolerated in a first world nation. Remember, religion was generally the first invasion force of the European countries when subjugating the wild world. The tactic no longer applies beyond social control. Where it contradicts law it is in contempt of breaking the law and should be dealt with as any other civil infraction.

I don't think churches should be reporting illegal immigrants, but I also don't think they should necessarily be giving them safe harbor from the law. When my dad was a church leader in southern California, we had lots of illegals in our congregation, but they were still included in all humanitarian aid projects. My dad also bent over backwards trying to help hook a lot of these people up with the right agencies to try and become legal citizens. The law is important, and I believe God wants us to uphold the laws of our countries, but he also wants us to love each other and to not judge.

No. I dont think its right, if they wish to live here immegrents need to be citizens no matter how long it takes , furthermore the church is setting a bad example. It is immoral to come to a country with the intentions of purposefully staying raising children and working in it. Contribute to society instead of sucking it dry because they think they can.

There is actually no such law for sanctuary and our law enforcement should go into the church and drag these illegal aliens out

2007-07-16 11:14:54 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 2 1

No. Because they are encouraging and facilitating criminal acts, and trying to supersede the authority of the United States government.

I'll also agree with what Steve C said: Their backward ideology and dogma of no birth control, even to prevent venereal diseases, is the major cause of the world's overpopulation and human suffering in third world countries.

The Church should not be getting involved, because they could just be getting themselves in trouble.
And we don't need another Church closing its doors, especially for something stupid like this.
