This noise seems to be comming from one of the fans. I put my ear to the cooling vent underneath and that is where the sound is strongest.

I noticed that the sound will go away when I click on different websites or programs that open new pages or windows. Depending on what is presented on the screen the sound comes and goes.

For example: I will click on one website and the faint high pitched noise is there, but if I click on another sometimes it goes away. It depends what is on the screen.

Like i said, it sounds the strongest near the cooling vent underneath the laptop.

Why does this sound come and go, what is it, can I fix it?

Could be that your cooling fan has a bad bearing. Reasonably common. Replace the fan.

Some people will probably say its your FAN...

Dont listen because it isnt...

Ive seen this happen before, with actually, a compaq laptop :O...

It is usually a wire or something that becomes disconnected inside of the computer, and its a very rare thing, but what happens is, the frequency of energy traveling through the computer, emits a sound on the speaker of the computer, which is why you hear it loud, almost like its a sound coming from the speakers but it isnt...

As far as a fix goes, I would have a proffesional look at it, unless its really old...

Let me guess exactly, it isnt when you click things that it goes away, but its when a web page is actually MOVING or CHANGING or TRANSFERING that it really makes the noise on and off???
