2-litres of swept capacity inside the engine.
It is calculated as the effective area of the piston (i.e. πr²) times the stroke of the piston.
The larger the engine, the more air/fuel mixture it is able to burn each revolution of the engine - hence producing more power.

Air and fuel.
For ignition
As each of the pistons in an engine reaches its limit of capacity (at the top of the cylinder) then that space added together with the capacity of however many other cylinders there are is equal to the figure quoted by the manufacturer.
So, if you have a 4 cylinder engine and your capacity is 2 litres then ech cylinder would have a capacity of 500cc.

It means the capacity of the engine in cubic centimeters. so your car is around about 2000cc, but probably about 1980cc.
Its just a way of knowing easily how much power an engine has, the higher the cc the more power generally you have.
So a 2litre car is a pretty good size for a family car, somewhere in the region of 100-150brake horse power, top speed about 100-130mph.
Super cars (lamborghinis, ferraris, aston martins etc) have 6litre engines, small first cars have typically 1litre, 1.2litre engines.

2.0 litre is the fluid capacity of all 4 cylinders in your engine at full stroke. the Cubic Inch system was replaced by the metric system of litres to more easily compare with foriegn auto makers
For instance: 5.7L = approx 350 CI
5.2L = approx 318 CI

It refers to the amount of space the pistons have to move in and dictates how big the pistons are the larger litre your car is the larger the pistons are and the more horsepower you have and less gas mileage..Good Luck
