My eight year old has been wearing 2 piece since she was 4. However, she has to put on some shorts or a swimsuit cover-up when she is out the pool. I let her play in make-up not too much. Then I let her know that she is much more beautiful without it.. As for the sleep overs I do not let her do this much. The only place she sleeps over is at my sister's or really close friends. Yes, I let her wear whatever she wants to bed.. No shorts or skirts below the knees. It depends on where she is going..
I always talk to my daughter about proper behavior for a young lady, the dos and don'ts! I tell her to let me know if anyone ever tries to touch her in a way she feels uncomfortable. I try to be a friend but know when to be the mom. Just keep it open and when they ask you question just try to be there. I know it is some things you are just not ready to answer. Let her know this is not a conversation that we should have your age. But when I think you are ready then we can discuss it.

I have a 9 year old and I let her wear a 2 piece swim suit when she is playing around our house (like in the sprinklers) but when she goes to the public pool I suggest she wears a 1 piece so she does. She cans stay the night at her friends house if they have brothers, I will not let her go to a house that is not well supervised. She has a really cute pair of short pajamas, I don't have a problem with her sleeping in them, I want her to be comfy. My daughter does not really like to wear skirts or shorts that are too short anyways, but they certainly do not have to all the way to the knee, mid thigh is OK.

Young girls at those ages should NOT be staying the night at ANY place where there is an older guy, unless he's an adult with children of his own. My niece [then 7] was staying the night at a friends [a girl, also 7] and she had an older brother [17 years old]. We later found out that he was asking her all of these really uncomfortable questions and saying very inappropriate things to my niece. Come to find out recently, he had been molesting his younger sister. So you can't trust people willy nilly. You have to get to know the parents and such. As far as makeup, I wouldn't let a kid wear makeup until their teens [13 years of age] and dresses and skirts/ 2piece swim suits, are fine. As long as they're not mini skirts, or things that are obviously inappropriate.

swimsuit - let them wear a 2 piece but the top piece has to be a halter that it looks like a 1 piece they are too young to show skin
makeup - they are still too young, i think it may be okay around the house if they are playing dress up but only eyeshadow and lipstick And NOT when they leave the house
Boys - they are going to be around boys just make sure they know about the sex and what happens STD's pregnancy, rumors. they have to know girls are having sex too earlie these days
short shorts - where you can see but cheek no no no at bed time i say no and defiantly not when they sleep at other peoples house. You never know
skirts above the knee a little is okay but not too too short where it stops at the thigh you don't want them look like sluts or hookers
and please don't tell me you gave them cell phones? they shouldn't have those untill at least they start to drive.
CELL PHONE cont.
Prepaid cell phone.... well i guess thats okay and if they earn their min by grades and chores than thats even better. but what is a 10 yr old or 8 yr old going to do with a cell phone do you really want them use the phone late at night, who are they calling. my husbands 11 yr old sister has a phone and she accedently called my house at 11:30pm to talk to a boy. I don't mean to sound rude about some of these things i've said but they are just childeren do you want them grow up so fast. young preteens and teens mostly girls are getting away with alot of things dressing like adults and hurting themselves and making bad choices in life that the are going to regret later in life and they don't know it yet.

It depends a lot on the child. We don't have the "bratz" fashion stuff or the Britney Hilary Whoever pop vixen stuff at our house. I think a lot of that encourages girls to be sexualized at a young age.
The skirts to the knee thing is hard to do. I try to help her choose styles that are comfortable but not sexy. Some of her skorts are kind of short, but she's more tomboyish, so I don't worry too much. She has a one piece swim suit, and she sleeps in short shorts. I would not let her sleep over with someone who had an older brother unless I knew the family really well.
She's starting to get that long-limbed coltishness that begins to attract male attention. I worry about that, and want to teach her to be confident, take care of herself and not exploit or encourage that attention.
Hope this helps.

I have a 10 year old girl and she wears what she wants around the house. I want her to be comfortable in her own home. She does weat two piece bathing suits (childly bathing suits, with cute patterns, etc). She is only allowed to spent the night at her best friends home as we have known her parents for several years. She is not allowed to stay the night at anyone's house that we do not know or approve of. When she does spent the night at her best friends, I always check the clothes that she is bringing. She has a very over-protective father and I continually tell him that she needs to be a kid. If you instill good values in your daughter(s), she will be fine. (Just keep your eyes and ears open--no matter how much you trust her).

I have a 12 yr old and yes, I let her wear a 2 piece if it's in good taste. She has friends with brothers and she stays the night. Yes, she wears sleep shorts, her skirts don't have to be to the knee. It's all in what your comfortable with. Different parenting skills for different households.

I don't let my 12 year old daughter walk around the street with a lot of skin showing. I know boys, and they scare me. But sleep overs and make-up feeling girly is all fine. but there is different rule for boys then there is for girls. Boys that are 13 don't have 18 year old girls hitting on them. (single dad for 10 years)

i think it is ok for kids to sleepover at their friends houses if they have brothers aslong as they are not sleeping in the same room. they should be able to wear shorts and skirts the twelve year old can probably wear a shorter skirt if you dont like that idea make her wear legginings and some makeup would be acceptable yes they can wear shorts to bed
