More police, more jail cells, stiffer prison sentences, better rehab programs in jail. Curfews for those 18 and under. And, that is just a beginning.

Statistics present a case for no bond before trial for violent offenders as the majority of them continue their violent activity while out on bond.
I am not certain how this would fit with the constitution but the leftists seem to think it is okay to give me more time because I hated the guy I clobbered, so if we suspend rights for that we may as well, when a person is indicted for crimes against persons, they sit in jail until the trial is over.
Additionally you might be better off eliminating plea bargaining for crimes against persons. Most of the bad guys know if they get popped they can bargain it down.
Just two ideas, but both would have the desired impact.

The violaters should know the seriousness of the violence. For example if someone shots someone on their leg and the victim loses a leg, the offender should also lose in the same way the same part, this will teach the world, how painful it would be to hurt others. Unless this is made, no violent crime can be stopped.

I don't know that the answer is more prisons. We have an extraordinary number of people locked up now.
I think if you look at most violent criminals their record starts at a very young age. Maybe some kind of intervention when they first come into the system. However a little intervention and then they go right back into the environment that caused them to be thugs in the first place won't work.
Complicated problem with no easy solutions.

more programs for people/youth at risk,
crack down on gangs and groups of criminals,
better rehabilitation for prisoners,
more realistic sentences (no minimums, let the sentence fit the circumstances of the crime),
anger management for those who have run-ins with the police (many violent people are labeled 'agressive' and have the police called on them before they committ a crime, but an arrest is never made. if the police have to tell someone to calm down they should have to work on managing their anger.
I think this applies at lot to domestic abuse cases. it we pay attention to warning signs we can prevent crimes)
monitor the illegal sales of guns/weapons
keep gun sale receits longer (so we have an easier time conntecting the buyer to the weapon and to any crimes that may have been comitted with said weapon)
just a few suggestions.....

Longer prison sentences - - these are the same people, they rape or rob someone, get caught, do time, get released, and rape or rob someone else - - - - the second, third, fourth, fifth offenses wouldn't happen if they'd never been released the first time.
This is expensive, but not more expensive than catching and prosecuting them again - - and who can put a value on the damage to the victim?
We could also, in theory, "get rid of guns" except that most of the guns used in violent crime are illegal, or illegally owned, already, and even if we could "get rid of guns" that's kind of like arguing that we could reduce traffic accidents by getting rid of cars.

Get rid of gun control and arm the law abiding citizens.
Dead criminals do not commit additional crimes.
An unarmed citizen is a victim and a subject of a tyrannical government and crime.

I see many here say more jails. I say more schools. I say a far better mental health system(the one we have is broke). Immediate 25 yr sentence if a gun is used. I am not for gun control at all. But a stiffer penality for those that use guns for crime.

Be tougher on criminals. Most of the crime is committed by a low percentage of individuals. We could learn a lesson from Sherriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona.
