Do you mean long-forgotten smells, or things that are associated with the first time you encountered them?

I'm going to answer based on memory associations.

When I smell hot tar that's being poured, it immediately takes me back to when I was about four years old and living in Charleston, S.C.

Jasmine reminds me of when I was in Kindergarten.

Gardenia's always remind me of my mother. She loved gardenia's and was the only person I've ever known who could make those difficult flowers thrive.

And it's odd that when I smell fresh rain on blacktop roads it makes me think of childhood, but nothing specific. I know that doesn't make sense. Perhaps it's because it's just always been a favorite smell through all my life.

A cologne sample from a magazine that I saved when I was about 13.

It seemed to me the essence of sexiness at the time... and still does (just sniffed it now, lol).

I remember when my grandmother used to cook all the time. Once a year she would make loads of Tamales and give them to all the family. I still remember the great smell of her kitchen.
