How old are you? I'm not sure if you would even be able to rent a car if you are under 25. I know I had trouble. Good luck.

It depends on where you're going, and how you want to get around, and how you're going to pay for things. You can't legally have a credit card in your name in the US if you're under 18. If you want to rent a car, most companies won't rent to you if you're under 21. Hotels and motels may not rent to you if you're under 21, also. Reputable ones, any way, and you probably don't want to stay at the seedy ones.
If you're visiting a big city that has good urban mas transit, you can probably get around using that with little problems. Just get a good map of the city and the system first, and find out how to get a pass for a week or month or however long you'll be here.

It depends on what you mean by "travel".
If you mean the whole thing, taking a holiday, driving, booking hotel rooms etc, then I'd imagine you'd have to be at least 18.
However, airlines are usually happy to take a minor on board an aircraft unaccompanied (by prior arrangement) provided the child is old enough to know what's going on and that they're going to be on their own on a plane for a few hours, and provided an adult will drop them off and collect them from the airport.

I dont know how old you are, but I'm 25 and would never travel anywhere alone. Not here in the US, not in a foreign country. Too much can happen and I'd always want someone with me.

If you are under 18, then you may have a problem getting motel rooms. And you also may have a problem with your parents if you want to go traveling arount the country by yourself. It would have helped if you had stated your age.

firstly, don't know how old you are
a school friend of mine used to go on her own every school holiday to see her dad who lived there, as long as an adult picks you up and drops you off, there should n;t be a problem.
I've done it with my daughter, but only from London to Amsterdam
