Etsy is a credible website, but keep in mind it works like eBay - you are buying THROUGH that website from an individual seller/shop. You won't be giving your credit card information to Etsy, you'll be giving it either directly to the seller or else to Paypal. (I would recommend Paypal.) Check the seller's feedback to give you an idea of other people's experience with them. I both sell and buy on Etsy and have never had any trouble.

Check into the sources, if it doesn't list any sources, then don't be too quick to trust it. If it is put up by a credible institution (NASA, Harvard, etc.) then you can probably trust the information.

You can't! Reputation, I suppose, is all that you have. For example, consumerreports.org is reputed to be reliable for information on ratings of consumer goods. ".gov" sites are "reputed" to be "accurate" information from various government entities. "citizendium.org" is "reputed" to be "accurate" because of hefty "moderation" of its references...

but all websites are fallible, and some are fallible intentionally, and I suppose we can never know for sure, which, just as we can never know which person we face is telling us, when s/he says, "yer ugly" whether or not we are
