It is nothing more than a marketing ploy and the fact that you are talking about it makes it worth while.

No, it's really clever. I'm an Angels fan and regularly attend Angels games. On last Friday night, the Angels were tied in the 9th inning. During a pitching change, they had a little cameo of King Kong with the Rally Monkey in it. Whenever they flash the monkey on the screen, you should hear how excited the crowd gets. Mind that they ended up winning that game.
And remember in '02 when it was first introduced? They were trailing the Giants when they played the first clip of the Rally Monkey. The crowd got up and cheering, and the Angels won the game. The same thing happened in the '02 playoffs against the Giants. They won the World Series because of the comeback. The Rally Monkey is the most popular item sold in Angels' stores at the ballpark and many fans bring them to the ballpark on a daily basis.
And also, the Angels have won more World Series with the monkey than the Yankees have since 2001: 1-0, Angels.
This season: the Angels have 6 walk-off wins on the season, second only to Minnesota, who has 8. The Angels also lead the Major Leagues in 8th-inning-or-later come-back wins. And they couldn't do this without the monkey.

First.. in the history of baseball? no... not the stupidest..there are many other things that are much more supid than a Rally Monkey.
Second... I would have to say no... its not stupid at all... Every baseball team has their gimicks...and many have mascots... the Angels have the Rally Monkey which is both... not only do they sell millions of stuffed versions of him... but when they bring him out...it does get the crowd going...
its like rally caps.... I dont think they are stupid either...the big difference is that the rally monkey also brings in huge cash... so to answer the question completely...
No not stupid at all... infact its a great marketing gimick.

no the stupidest idea is the new all star rule. The monkey is cool, doesnt hurt anybody. It is kinda stupid but its funny too. Espn and fox or whoever are the ones who over hyped back when Anaheim was in the World Series.. Besides is still better than a real team mascot for a major league team, thats stupid! (except the Phillie fanatic, I like him)

Never been to LA, but I agree that interleague play is the stupidist thing in baseball. Also, the lack of a salary cap and revenue sharing. I'm not just saying that because I root for a small-market team and we really suck in interleague play :)
On another note, ever see the Pierogie Races at PNC Park?

No, the stupidest idea in the history of baseball was when they were going to put Spider-Man logos on all the bases for a month. Thank god someone spoke up and told them it was an idiotic idea.

No. An even stupider idea happened over ten years ago. Some genius in the Yankees' front office decided to hold a double-promotion on the same day: Two for one beers and free baseball bats!

No. The STUPIDEST idea was back in 1979 when they blew-up a bunch of disco records in Comiskey Park. It got SO out-of-hand that MLB officials had to cancel the 2nd game of a doubleheader.

No. That would be interleague play with "rivalry" games 6 times a year. That is stupid.
The rally monkey is just damn cool. I say that is an entertaining thing during a game to get the crowd going. What is so bad about that??

no the dumbest and most disturbing thing (especially as a tribe fan) is Chief Wahoo. Claiming that its respect for Native Americans then slapping a Warner Bros cartoon on the hat is horribly embarrassing.
