Moving out of the city - getting my child into a school where she can feel free just to be a child and play A LOT, a little house with big plot of land, chickens, ducks, dogs, sheep, maybe a cow.... My husband working from home earning a heap of money... Anywhere I can find that would literally and figuratively be "greener pastures" to me!

Well, my totem is the horse, so to me it means a fine place to retire: put out to pasture in a green pasture sounds just great.
But the general sense is of a better place than the one you are in. It is typically used of someone who is changing jobs: they are going on to greener pastures.
You have to be able to think like a grazing animal for it to make sense.

At the moment that would mean a nap and a chance to get rid of my headache.
Long term - I'm in the greener pasture. I wouldn't trade my life for anybody's.

Personally for me it means that there's a better side to life that is portrayed as better, but really isn't. So therefore we should just stick to our normal lame lives.
