I have asked similar questions before, but the closer we get to our move, the more nervous I get.

My family and I are moving to SLC in September. We are pagan and artsy, borderline neo hippie, lol. He is going to college for massage therapy and I work from home as a tarot reader. Our son will be home schooled.

I don't have a problem with Mormons, my husband was raised Mormon and excommunicated himself when he was 16. But I have been told they may have a problem with us. I keep hoping this isn't the case, but from what I have been told, I am nervous.

Can someone tell me what to expect? Where are more liberal places to live? Any other advice would be nice :) Thanks!

Sugarhouse is a pretty liberal place to live. You should be fine though, just don't act weird around them and they won't act weird around you. I should know, I am one, and I live in Sugarhouse, LOVE it. :)

It isn't as polarized between Mormon and non-Mormon in SLC as it used to be.

You will find a nice little subculture of artsy, pagan, neo-hippies (smile) there. A good way to get acquainted would be the drum circle at Liberty park on Sundays.

My daughter would be about your age and she is an artist and a musician. She says there is a chakra about the city that makes it even more beautiful.

Best of luck to you.

I think Salt Lake city would be the most comfortable fit in Utah for your situation. It seems to be becoming more mainstream than in years past. It is also a good-sized city, so you will meet a large variety of people.

DO NOT settle in Utah County, (Provo-Orem) for example. Very hard to fit in there (and I AM a Mormon!)

I really think the situation is what you make of it. If you think you won't 'fit in' and go around with that attitude, you won't. If you can accept everyone as they are, no judging (and yes, that also means the Mormons!) then you will do just fine.

I used to date a girl whose dad and step-mom lived there. She was a psychic/massage therapist. They seemed to get along fine with everyone there. SLC isn't as "Mormon" as the rest of Utah. You should be fine.

I lived in SLC for a year. If you are not Mormon just get out, your life will be hell.

I don't know for sure, just what little I've heard, but if you don't mind the commute, a place you might want to check out is Park City. Like I said, I don' know but it might be worth checking out.
