Some of these answers were good, but a lot of them just made me scratch my head and just wonder if these people are REALLY Hip Hop fans, or if they just like whatever pop rapper is hot at the moment.

50 cent? Lil Wayne?? Gimme a break! TI has one of the best songs ever made??? That's as sad as it is funny.

Picking 5 songs out of 30 years of Hip Hop as the best is harder than I first thought. I can only come up with 3 so far:

-King of Rock - This one HAS to be in the top 5 just because Run DMC laid the foundation with this song.
-Self Destruction - First ever MAJOR compilation of rappers using their influence to reach the community. The song is so real that it's still relavent today.
-Fight The Power

For the last two I came up with:

4. that song by Sugar Hill Gang that everybody and their mother knows now. It got that way for a reason.

5. Finally, I forgot the name of the song by Wu, but it went: "You can't party your life away, fcuk your life away, drink your life away, smoke your life away, dream your life away, scheme your life away, 'cause your seeds grow up the same way."

I think this whole song speaks to black people everywhere, so that's why I'd say it belongs in the top 5.
