caterpillars don't eat nectar -- only some moths and butterflies do.

You need to identify WHAT caterpillar you have, then see what it prefers to eat.

As Yahmzim or whatever said, caterpillars do not feed on nectar. Caterpillars lack the probiscus that is nescessary to feed on nectar. They, instead, eat leaves. If you happen to have found a caterpillar, you'll need to know what kind. Most caterpillars feed on a variety of hosts, but some feed exclusively. Those that feed exclusively usually feed on a variety of hosts in the family which their host is in.

If the nectar attracts wasps, it will! Caterpillars normally prefer leaves, though a few weird kinds eat aphids or ant larva.
