Are you talking clothes and supplies or just clothes? Clothes only, I'd say $300 max - especially if you start now, while there's big sales, or wait until after school starts and hit the REALLY big sales. Reason being: so many people are going back to school shopping in late August, so the stores are getting top dollar for things while they can, but if you buy a few things now and then a few things after school starts - once things settle down, you can get the same stuff for less money. (And you'll have had a chance to check out what everyone else is wearing...)

Well, I believe it all depends on how many children you have in the first place and where you shop. Now I have 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls and well I try to spend the same on them all. Now i can go to a walmart or Kamrt and buy all of them shoes and it only costs me 60.00 and well the clothes Just think Christmas is right around the corner so they don't need a whole crap load of clothes maybe 5 new outfits and whatever is in really good condition from last year given that it fits. you don't have to go all crazy because means Christmas, if you celebrate it, is a few months away well they get alot of things then anyways so why not let them be more surprised on Christmas to get more things that for school. so I would say about $100.00 each for clothes . now our schools supply everything like paper and stuff like that till they are in middle schools BUT i already Stocked up when It goes On sale SO I have enough school supplies to get them through High school!!!

I think back-to-school shopping has become a commercialized trend that is spoiling kids. Why do children need a complete new wardrobe to start school is beyond me. I think it is an old tradition that has been taken way out of context. It encourages the competitiveness and materialism in schools. New clothes should be bought when they are needed (because too small or worn out, etc) not just because a new school year starts. It is such a waste and doesn't teach good lifetime habits at all.
Sorry, I know this is not what you wanted to hear, I grew up in Europe and there is no such thing as back to school shopping. My daughters tried to convince me when they where in high school, but I always kept things very limited. I'm happy to say they are both now in their twenties and have a very good sense for living within their means.

well for the past 6 years I wore uniforms and now I do not...... I am starting highschool where you can dress the way you want....... I have practically no clothes besides uniforms and huge T shirts for weekends and sunday clothes ..... I have jeans already now I just need tops and I don't shop at Hollistor or American Eagle (because I am not a stick) and I probably only need about 300-400 which 30 of that is school supplies and 20 of that on shoes (from ebay which are really 50 dollars so you save there) after ninth grade then I don't need much more for 10th through 12th probably onlt 200 dollars which half would be my money

Depending on the age (box of crayons vs drivers ed) is can vary. Here is what I did for my niece (5)
They gave a list of stuff to buy needed for the class. That was about $50 - $75
The stuff she wears to school will be diff rent than what she wears at home on the weekend because school cloths are usually a little nicer.
6 new outfits (always add one more for being in the wash). $10-50 an outfit (places like Ross can be cheaper, but this includes socks, undies...)
2 pairs of shoes (she has a ton to choose from already but you can't go in new close with horrible shoes). I have seen cute ones for $10-$40 a pair. She stomps in mud so I stick with the lower of the two on that one.
2 coats (lighter one and heavier one). One thing you should not skimp on. It is keeping her dry and warm. It will prevent colds. $50-$100.
Back pack- $20-$40
No makeup. She is only 5.
Add it up
50-75+60-300+20-80+100-200+20-40=
250-695
Or you can just buy the cloths a couple outfits at a time through the year to cut cost and keep up with what ever kids are wearing.
Good luck

(These are rough estimates and what I usually spend)
About $30 for supplies (notebooks, pencils, binders etc.), if you're shopping at places like Wal-Mart and Office Depot.
And maybe $40 or $50 if you include a backpack in your school supplies list and plan on buying a new one.
This is the hard part to estimate: the clothes.
We (meaning my family, I don't have a job yet so I can't pay for them myself) normally spend about $200 or so on my school clothes. I shop at places like Macy's, Old Navy, Hot Topic and occasionaly Hollister. I'm not filthy rich, and those places have pretty good prices.
And then add the prices of textbooks and any other things you buy for BTS, and it should be roughly $230-$300, and maybe $400 at the most if the clothes and books are really really exspensive. Things add up quickly, so only buy what you absolutely need if you are on a strict budget!
Hope I helped! :)

It costs me $50 - $75 per elementary child just for school supplies like pencils, backpack, paper, markers, crayons, glue, etc.
High schoolers do not need as many supplies. I would say no more than $20 there. If they want a namebrand notebook, make them pay the difference.
As far as clothes go, I have spent about $120 on each of my children for 12 outfits each. I shop all summer when I see a good bargain. (Just make sure to put the clothes up so they don't get ruined over the summer.)
So, I guess I spend $140 - $195 each year on back-to-school shopping per child.
If your budget is limited, you can get really good deals on like-new clothing at thift stores and yard sales. Also, check around your neighborhood to see if there are any assistance programs. Most communities have programs that provide school supplies and clothing to school-age children. If your children qualify for government assistance or free or reduced lunches, they will qualify for free school supplies.
Whatever amount you spend, just make sure you are comfortable with it. You do not want to spend so much money that you cannot afford to pay your rent or electrc bill because of it.
Good luck!

Depends on what grade level your shopping for first of all. Someone with children going into low grades such as elementary school may not spend as much on books, pens, etc but will spend a lot of clothes, since this is the age when growth spurts will be in full effect! Someone going into college, or even high schoool, will need to devote $200 and up just to books. Also, if the school is a private school, you'll save costs on new clothes, which aren't necessarily just for school but necessary, and shell out some money for a uniform! So there are lots of factors, but no matter what the age when you think of a backpack, calculator, sneakers, lunch box, etc etc etc you're in for $400 easy I say!

Depends on the age group.. if your a teen in junior high i'd say about 400 no more because keep in mind that it's only for one year ((same applies for high school)). If you're a college student you would need a thousand at the LOWEST bc of laptops, food payments, etc., etc..
However if you are lower than junior high maybe about 200-300 dollars because they dont need very much except clothes and prbably supplies.. always keep in mind a budget and that it is only for ONE year!
people always get carried away with shopping and dont think about how long things are gonna last for and how long they will need it for..
It might sound like a lot of money but you can ALWAYS go with what you have and make it more reasonable for your budget.. My parents aren't cheap.. its just that they go with whatever is the best for middle class financial ways :D
HOPE I HELPED AND GOODLUCK!!!
--chill out tho,,, its still summer vacation over here.. dont rush.. I've still got around two months!!! hehehe and i CAN wait until school comes back around :)

Well that depends..........
♠ How many people are you shopping for? 1, 2, 3, 10?
♠ What kind of school are you going to? Elementary, Middle, College.......you get the picture.
♠ And what exactly are you going to purchase? Just school supplies (pens, pencils, paper) or clothes and shoes as well?
All of this information matters when someone is trying to answer your question.
♠ If you are shopping for one child (in elementary, middle, or high school) and getting supplies as well as new clothes I would say that $200 should be enough.
♠ If you are shopping for a first time college student I would say that anywhere from $200-$400 should be enough, depending on what you need to purchase, and where you purchase it of course.
I hope this helps. :o)
