The fact is that liberals are more tolerant of different religions, races, sexual orientation and lifestyles than right wing christians ever were or will be.
The "Liberals are intolerant" is the mantra of Right wing radio and is a fantasy based on the fact that liberals don't wish to tolerate bigotry or people forcing their religious views on other people. So yeah liberals are intolerant in that sense, which is a good thing.

I dont know where I can go to hear that mantra recited, I've never heard it said before. It seems idiotic though to attribute a characteristic such as tolerance or patience to an entire political group, don't you agree? I do know that some conservatives, as well as some liberals are very intolerant, especially on this site.

I chuckle when I hear that mantra too...I have had MANY arguments with my lib friends on which party is more tolerant. I usually ask them, when is the last time a pro-life person spoke at the D National Convention? That keeps them quiet for a few minutes

? Conservatives seem to think that allowing abortion means they each personally have to have one, and that gay marriage means they have to make a turnaround on their own personal feelings about gays.
Liberals don't like conservatives, if that's what you mean, but we're for liberty in the public sphere--more choices rather than fewer choices. Then we all get to live as we choose. Look--divorce is legal, but plenty of people will never do that because it goes against their beliefs. I don't have a problem with that. They're making the choice that's right for them.
I'll never understand what there is to argue about on this point. This isn't Iran, this is America. Liberals have as much right as conservatives to say, "Love it or leave it."

No, I don't.
It's hard to define a liberal.
Some are passionate people who want to improve life honestly for the greater good of all people.
Some are passionate people who want to improve life but don't know how to back their claims.
Some are teenagers following the crowd.
So, true liberals are tolerant. Those are the people who tolerate people, even those who they disagree with.

Yes I do!! Libs are tolerant of everyone and everything, except people who think differently than they do, want actual proof of global warming, are a capitalist, think people should actually work, or are a Christian.

"Tolerant liberal" is an oxymoron.
Unless you believe as they do, they will shout you down and attempt to shut you up at every opportunity.
Look at speech codes on campus, for example. The "Fairness Doctrine," liberals shouting down conservative speakers, etc etc.
In my experience, liberals are the most hateful, mean-spirited, angry and intolerant people on the planet.

"Peace love and harmony"-- you might want to take those last 3 off yer list, cause they're kinda broke...
Oh yeah and I'm am for most of those things and guess what... I'm not a liberal; liberals aren't the only ones with a "social conscience"...
