why are you a democrat/republican and not a republican/democrat?

Your question doesn't make a lot of sense, but I am a registered Republican but I think more like a libertarian.

I've witnessed the failings of food stamps & other well intentioned programs which are designed to help the poor, but end up keeping them dependent on the government.

My brother won't take the jobs offered to him because they don't pay enough to compensate for the money he will lose from food stamps, unemployment, medicare (or medicaid?) and other help for his disabled child. It's better to stay unemployed than to start climbing the ladder. Therefore he stays poor.

But once you start a program, it is virtually impossible to end it, no matter how expensive & counter-productive the program is!

But I am not one of those Republicans who want to "legislate morality." I see no reason marijuana should be illegal.

I even think prostitution should be legalized, although it should be legislated heavily for health reasons. I find prostitution disgusting & wrong, but in America we have a right to be disgusting & wrong.

To sum it up - I want Uncle Sam out of my bedrrom AND out of my pocketbook!
