I'm going to Disney World w/3 others and our only date options are December 16th to December 23rd or December 29th to January 5th. I do know enough to not go to Disney World on Christmas day.

I need help choosing the date set. Please choose based on what you know about Disney World and its busy times.

After New Year's, things slow down -- a lot. So, as a Florida resident, it is my quasi-professional opinion to go later. Try to stay out of the parks on New Year's, and go when the lines are short in the latter part of your trip.
Might I suggest purchasing The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World? http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-Guide-Disney-World-Guides/dp/047179032X/ref=pd_bbs_1/105-3884708-1272460?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184619975&sr=8-1

I would go the 16th to 23rd, the holiday season is one of the busyest times of year for WDW, this is the week before christmas I'm sure some schools will be out making it a bit busy but the week of christmas is going to even more so. Christmas through new years is a very busy time if not the busyest time of year and while new years eve at WDW is supposed to be great, if you want to miss crowds then I would skip new years and I think due to is being a Monday-Tuesday it will remain crowded..

I would pick the 16th through 23rd. Based on when I have been there around that time, you have a better chance of hitting a few days that aren't crazy busy than the other option.

A few years ago I was there for New Years Eve. My friends and I had a blast! I highly recommend being there for new years. It was more crowded than let's say the Food and Wine Festival in Nov (which is amazing!) but a lot of fun nonetheless! Happy travels :)
