Why hasn't evolution eliminated homosexuals? Is it because homosexuality is really a choice one makes, or because Darwinism is a fallacy?

From the people I've known who are gay, a lot of times it was an even or series of events in their childhood that changed the way they view themselves and view the world. A couple of examples:

1) I read an article about a man who as a child, accidentally walked in on his mother while she was changing and saw pretty much everything, and she was so surprised that she slammed the door on his fingers. When he got older, he realized that he couldn't look upon the female figure without experiencing that same pain, and so he struggled with homosexuality. He tried to resist it, because he believed it was wrong, but I don't know if he ever recovered.

2) I met someone who is Christian but is also admittedly homosexual. He doesn't embrace this aspect of his life, and tries to resist it as well, believing it to be wrong. He really opened up to me, and I learned that as a child he was sexually abused by a teenage boy, and also grew up in a broken home without a solid father figure in his life. He wasn't born gay, and he doesn't want to live that way.

Also, I'd like to respectfully disagree with Random above me about homosexuals being necessary for survival. I think that there are enough single people out there to meet that same need in society, especially since the number of active, practicing homosexuals is so low relative to the population. Single aunts and uncles I'm sure vastly outnumber homosexuals. Second, even aunts and uncles who aren't single are more than capable of taking care of there sibling's children, and maybe even more so if they have a stable family situation in place.

And yes, I believe Evolutionary Darwinism is a fallacy, because Darwin said so himself in his Origin of the Species that if the fossil record doesn't support his proposition, then his whole theory is completely false. But that's another topic altogether.

Why were you born straight? Why are dwarfs born dwarfs? Why are people still sometime born with more than five fingers? Evolution can not eliminate homosexuals. Personally, I'm straight so it's not like I'm just trying to stand up for homosexuals but, I will stand up for the fact that they are born that way...well most of them anyways. Asking a gay person when they realized they were gay is like asking a straight person when they realized that they were straight...you just always knew, right? Evolution doesn't suggest perfection so I'd say Darwin's theories are correct.

There's speculation that there might be evolutionary reasons for homosexuality to survive. We're social creatures, and it might have been a good thing to have a few extra adults who weren't likely to have kids around. They could help with their nieces and nephews, who would be more likely to survive with more attention and would carry some of the genes that would make homosexuality more likely. Or it's just one of those things that happened, and, since some gay people have kids and it doesn't affect the fertility of their family members who might be carriers, then it survives.

Homosexuality, however, is not simple. There is no one gene that makes you gay. It's most likely a variety of things, many of which may be affected by your environment (not how you're raised, necessarily, as much as what hormones your mom's uteris is flooded with and so on). And most people fall somewhere in the middle of the scale. Kinsey himself found that very few people are 100% gay or 100% straight.

The question then must be asked if animals have free will or also choose to engage in homosexual activities.

It is well documented that many different animals engage in homosexual behavior, thus if you think homosexuality and Darwinism cannot both be true, then I guess Darwinism would be wrong.

why would it need to eliminate them? it isnt a choice, we are born being who we are...i have identical twin daughters one is straight the other is gay...i new from the time they were 2 years old that she was gay...i want to know why people CHOOSE for homosexuality to be such an issue. A person's personal sexual preference is just that...its there's...not myself, you, or anyone should have the right to judge that.. They were born gay..they will die gay and whatever happens in between that is solely there own business. The only choice they have is wether to hide it from a society that condems it or to proudly walk through the scrutiny of others holding there heads up high because they are proud of who they are ...

Being born gay. Being Gay affects a balance of chemicals in the brain. It is not genetic. Therefore has nothing to do with Darwinism.

Your supposition , would also apply to such genetic disorders as Downs Syndrome, Ty Sachs Disease, Neurofibromatosis,Sickle Cell Disease,Cystic Fibrosis etc.

If people are born gay?
People are not born gay. When they get older they have doubts what they are,so they might start believing that they are'Different"We are what we believe we are.
But since there are so many confused people ,we have to learn ,To love them as our neighbour. And life in harmony.
There is enough misery in the world.

It's an interesting perspective, but if evolution were to eliminate homosexuality, first, it has to assumed that "gayness" is hereditary. It may be an in-born orientation, but it has never been proven to be hereditary.
Another take on your question could be, "why hasn't evolution eliminated uninformed prejudice?". but, as you can see, it hasn't.

After reading the answers you recieved from so many homophobics and people who dont know what they are talking about.....Yes people ARE born gay, scientists have been studying the brains of gay men and have found that there is a minor difference in the brains of gay men compared to straight men. Yes some gay people actually grow up & get married, why? Because they think that will "cure" them or because of family pressures.I have known many gay people, male & female, and I have asked each of them this question and the majority have responded..."Nobody would EVER CHOOSE this lifestyle, it wrecks havoc on yourself, due to so much hatred towards gay people, (so many uneducated & educated people think gay people are all perverts, THEY ARE NOT!), your family most times rejects you, the hate crimes against gays is terrifing, they suffer alot of predujices as well, and they ALL have questioned themselves..."Whats wrong with me?" Until they finally come to except themselves for what they are. Did any of you chose ..the color of your skin? to be heterosexual? to be poor? to be disabled? I rest my case!

Because it's one of evolution's responses to overpopulation. You see it in animal populations regularly. Whenever there is too large a population for available resources to support, animals turn to homosexuality which reduces the breeding stock and lowers the population numbers.

You should thank your local homosexuals for freeing up resources for your kids.
