Agreed.
On 29 November 1947, the United Nations General Assembly, with a two-thirds majority international vote, passed the United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine (United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181), a plan to resolve the Arab-Jewish conflict by partitioning the territory into separate Jewish and Arab states, with the Greater Jerusalem area (encompassing Bethlehem) coming under international control. Jewish leaders (including the Jewish Agency), accepted the plan, while Palestinian Arab leaders rejected it and refused to negotiate. Neighboring Arab and Muslim states also rejected the partition plan. The Arab community reacted violently after the Arab Higher Committee declared a strike and burned many buildings and shops. As armed skirmishes between Arab and Jewish paramilitary forces in Palestine continued, the British mandate ended on May 15, 1948, the establishment of the State of Israel having been proclaimed the day before. The neighboring Arab states and armies (Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Transjordan, Holy War Army, Arab Liberation Army, and local Arabs) immediately attacked Israel following its declaration of independence, and the 1948 Arab-Israeli War ensued. Consequently, the partition plan was never implemented.
So it is plain to see this is an ARAB problem.

I agree that it's shameful that the Arab nations have left the Palestinians in camps for so many years. They could have easily been absorbed into what was TransJordan, but they weren't. Israel does more for these poor people than their fellow Muslims; she has built universities and schools and hospitals, as well as brand new housing. The only thing the Arab nations provide is weaponry. The Arab countries definitely use the Palestinians as a political porn, and it's terrible.

But though I partly agree with what you suggest, frankly if we do leave it to the Arab states, the Palestinians will be waiting forever for help, and for a state. I think the most crucial thing is for the Palestinians to realise that if ONLY they would reject terrorism, Israel would so happily begin a dialogue with them, and then there would be a chance of a Palestinian state, and a lasting, true peace.

By problem do you mean their political backwardness and glorification of death and violence against innocents? Of course, they're just Arabs, anyway. The term "Palestinian" is pure propaganda.

Edit: Are you asking about the Arab-Israeli conflict in general, then? Yes, it is an Arab problem. I mean, of course it's a problem for Israel to be surrounded by such hostility, but there is nothing proactive Israel can or should do about it, really. The whole thing revolves around Arab hatred for Jews and Israel - the ARABS have to sort that out.
I agree with everything said below by allergic except for that about not leaving it to the Arab states - every single time Israel or the West attempts to help the 'Palestinians,' the Arabs interpret it as a sign that their terrorism has been effective. They don't want a state, they want to kill Jews - they've proven that time and time again. Israel grants far, far too many concessions to these terrorists.

Edit II: The Arabs made their own bed, Tink, by refusing the partition plan in '47 and choosing war, hatred, and death over peace, friendship, and prosperity. There was no request for dialogue on the issue, no indication that the Arabs even in principle accepted the idea - they finally had their pretext for pushing the Jews into the sea. I agree, it's pitiful what's happened to them, but they brought it on themselves and they perpetuate it. Do you think Israelis WANT to live with soldiers on their streets?
Honestly, what do you think would happen if Israel pulled all Israeli presence back to the Green Line? Do you really believe that the Arabs would all lay down their Kalashnikovs and just go about their business of building a viable state? What are they waiting for, then? The Yishuv worked to build a state before it was even known whether a Jewish state would be recognised. Go read Hamas' charter and tell me whether you honestly believe they would ever accept peace with Israel.

Mark, the UN OFFERED the Arabs a Palestinian state in '47. They refused. See above. There is no such place as "Palestine."

Disagree...The Palestinian problem was created by the creation of Israel and the ones who created it should try to solve it, not place it to the Arabs and make them solve what others created. Now the Palestinian problem is a global problem because it creates instability in the Middle East ,which in one way or another creates instability in the world. So I disagree that is is just an Arab problem, it's a global problem and everyone should work to solve it...

"The tragedy in Palestine is not just a local one; it is a tragedy for the world, because it is an injustice that is a menace to the world's peace."

True if Palestinians kill *only* Arabs, but that is not the case, so when Palestinians kill people from societies other than Arabs, the other countries MUST retaliate.

The UN created 2 states one called Israel and the other was called Palestine. Now if we support the right of Israel to exist we must do the same to the Palestinians and support the right of Palestine to exist too.
disagree.

We make a contribution an excellent variety of money, foodstuff, components, and protection rigidity/diplomatic help to Africa. We contributed an excellent bite of help money for the tsunami in Indonesia. we are constantly engaged on easing rigidity between Pakistan and India. purely because of the fact our protection rigidity is focussed on the middle-east suited now, does not advise we aren't working in distinctive places diplomatically.

I agree, the world should sit back and let them slaughter themselves and just keep one finger on the trigger if it spills over and affects them or their interests.
