In my house, it just means that the dog is going to come running over to see if there was food on that silverware.

I know there is some superstition but I don't know what it is. In my house it just means it has to be washed again.
I thought that someone came over when you dropped the dish rag.

Southern New Jersey, USA - -Superstition - I was told growing up that a fork means a woman will visit and a knife means a man.
