The S.1105 Hate Crimes Bill (often referred to as the Matthew Shepard Act) was introduced in the Senate last Wednesday as an amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill which involves funding for the war in Iraq. What do hate crimes have to do with the war in Iraq? Absolutely nothing!

In my opinion this is nothing but a trick to force the President to sign the bill....and a dirty trick at that.

You're absolutely right. This does not belong here. It is a bill that would have no chance of passing by itself so some selfish dems want to force this on us. The American people need to hear about this and realize that a dem majority is not in this country's best interests.

It is wrong, and is a slap in the face of every citizen in this country. Congress has shown its arrogance, its complete and utter disregard for the AMerican public, and the careerists all need to go away.

Congress and their socialist supporters are the enemy within America.

the senate republicans have stated as their objective to stop any legislation from being passed.

with this in mind, adding this to a bill that the republicans wouldn't dare filibuster is fine by me.

This stuff happens every day in politics. They will attach something unpopular like the Hate Crime Bill to something that NO ONE who wants to ever be reelected would vote against.

"Today we will be voting on the resolution that makes it illegal to throw babies into wood chippers."

"Ummm... excuse me? Why are there sixteen pages of tax increases attached? I'm not voting for this!"

"He wants to throw babies into wood chippers! Did you all see that! He's actually voting FOR throwing babies in wood chippers!"

"Wait... no... I... I'll vote for it!"

Yes, it's a time honored trick that Republicans perfected during the 12 years that they basically ruled Congress.
